Last week, I came across an awesome post on another dog website, so I wanted to share it! This was a post made on Harley’s Dream, which is a site that is dedicated to putting an end to puppy mills.

This site is named after a sweet Chihuahua that sadly had to spend the majority of his life in a puppy mill. Sadly, he even lost his eye in the process, but after 10 years, he was finally rescued. Harley’s Dream was made in his honor to help educate the world about the horrors of puppy mills.

As you probably know, Molly and I are very against puppy mills, so we thought it would be a great idea to share this website’s awareness initiative to help spread the word.

What is Take a Bite out of Puppy Mills?

Take a Bite out of Puppy Mills is a fall awareness initiative to help spread the word about puppy mills (if you don’t know what a puppy mill is, I strongly encourage you to click that link!)

Many dog lovers don’t know about puppy mills even though they impact dogs so greatly. Therefore, the goal of this is to educate others in a fun and non-graphic way, especially children.

To a child, all puppies are adorable! They don’t think much of the situation beyond that. However, children are the ones that are often begging for a puppy of their own. So, it is important to educate them about it early on. Try to teach children about adoption instead of glorifying these expensive puppies.

Harley’s Dream is selling lots of different items to help promote this initiative and spread the word. You can purchase items to hand out to trick-or-treaters or clothing items to wear.

How Can You Help?

First of all, you can click here to check out the adorable items they have for sale! They have a wide selection of shirts, sweatshirts, and even socks! They also have cute items that you can hand out to trick-or-treats, such as bookmarks, stickers, lollipops, bracelets, and temporary tattoos!

The shirts feature a dog named Teddy, who is another puppy mill survivor. Sadly, both Harley and Teddy are no longer with us, but their brave stories live on to inspire others to put an end to puppy mills.

If you don’t have money to purchase any items right now, that’s okay! Please just spread the word. You can share this post, Harley’s Dream’s post, or even visit Harley’s Facebook page or Teddy’s Facebook page. The more people that are aware of this event, the more people will be educated.

This awareness doesn’t just have to go through the month of October though. Spreading the word about puppy mills should be an ongoing thing. Educate those around you, especially younger kids. Encourage others to adopt a dog in need instead of purchasing a new puppy. These might just seem like little things, but all these little acts of kindness can add up to saving the lives of so many dogs!
